The City of Hastings has put out a call for public artwork to be featured in the newly renovated riverfront area along the Mississippi River. "Through the Public Arts Grant Task Force, the City of Hastings is soliciting proposals for permanent public artworks that will add to the visual interest of our downtown and riverfront area in a manner that celebrates creativity and enhances community identity."
Entries must be submitted by January 15, 2016. Further information can be found on the City of Hastings Website. Click here to see the application form. Under construction on the shores of the Mississippi River in Hastings is a redesign of the riverfront area in downtown Hastings. The revamp includes a pavilion, amphitheater, labyrinth, trails, fireplace, and more. Click here to see updates about the construction. The second phase is slated to be complete by November 1, 2015.
Now open is the Breakaway Arts Center - a center for creativity in the downtown area of Hastings between City Hall and the Mississippi bridge. The Hastings Art Center, home of Blessings Academy offers private music lessons, art classes, space rental and some concerts. Concerts this fall include Guitarist Jim Falbo on October 22, Hamlet produced by Black Dirt Theater Nov 12 - 22, and the Hastings Wind Ensemble and River Valley Band concert on October 29. Andy Evanson is a water color artist who has set up a new studio in downtown Hastings. Some of his artwork is on display and he will be having classes there soon. The open house in December was a wonderful success - so excited for Andy! Here is a link to his website. Sarah and Travis Lockwood got an early Christmas present when they became the official owners of the building originally built as the Guardian Angel's Church - soon to be the Hastings Arts Center! I have had a behind the scenes tour of the building and am so excited about it's potential. Construction is underway to upgrade the space into a school of music with music rooms, visual artist studio space, and a large performance space. It will be great to see this space be used and cared for by arts enthusiasts! Here is a link to their facebook page - be sure to like it! Art in the Garden Tour - Saturday, July 12, 2014 This is an opportunity to see beautiful gardens in the Hastings and Prescott area with artists working as you tour. Le Duc Historic Estate Concerts Hear music that was performed in the Historic Le Duc Estate and enjoy a high tea following the concert. Concert will be on Sunday, July 13, 2014 6:30 - 8:00 PM. For more information, follow this link! Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat is the summer musical production being put on by Hastings' local community theater. Performances run from Friday, July 25, 2014 - Sunday, August 3, 2014. Here is a link to the Black Dirt Theater's website so you can find out more about this and purchase tickets! Summer concerts at the Le Duc - Sunday evenings at 7:00 in August. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy great music and good company. Concerts are free - sponsored the the Concert Association of Hastings. Ponticelli, the newly formed string ensemble of Hastings, will be performing in August with other local music groups at the Spring Lake Park Reserve Music Festival on Sunday, August 17 - 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Event is free, but pre-registration is appreciated. Also in Hastings this summer: River Town Days, The every-other Saturday in summer Cruise Ins, Little Log House Antique Power Show, and Jazz in the Vineyard on Sunday nights in July and August at the Alexis Bailly Vineyard just south of town. Registrations are due to Community Ed by Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Hello! Well, here it is August. Target stores have had their "back to school" items out for a month already. I will be putting together my teaching schedule in the next couple of weeks. Lessons will start the THIRD week of school (September 17, 18 and 19). I will be giving lessons on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. Please email me with your time preferences.
Something you should know is that I just accepted the position of Licensed School Nurse for the school district. My schedule will be busier this fall. That is why I've decided to start with lessons one week later than usual. I'll need the first two weeks to get things up and running at school first.
